Try These Tips to Save Your Lips!

Between winter's harsh, icy winds, and dry indoor heat, your lips take a beating and end up chapped, cracked, and sore. So treat them right and they'll be kissably smooth, just in time for Valentine's Day--and beyond! Here's how:
  • Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can cause dryness, so increase your intake during the winter months to keep your lips looking fresh.
  • Don't lick those smackers! It may seem like a quick fix, but it actually dries lips out even more.
  • Use lip balms that contain beeswax. They'll protect your lips without creating a glossy oil slick. Ordinary petroleum jelly works wonders, too.
  • Run a humidifier to add moisture to the air and counteract the lip-drying effects of your furnace.
  • Wear a scarf on cold, windy days to protect your face and lips.
  • Kick the habit. Smoking will dry your lips and make them more prone to chapping. (As if you needed another reason to quit!)
  • Whip up a homemade lip scrub by adding a few drops of grapefruit juice to a tablespoon of granulated sugar in a small bowl. Mix it together with your fingers until the sugar is saturated, then rub it onto your lips. After 5 minutes, rinse with cool water and coat your smooth, soft lips with lip balm.
