Grapefruit? How about GREATfruit!

Now that winter has kicked into high gear, eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is more important than ever. After all, with all the snow and ice outside (not to mention the sub-freezing temps!), physical activity is harder to come by, and getting the recommended 5-a-day servings will help you stay fit and healthy. I actually look forward to January because I know that’s when I can find a fresh crop of my favorite juicy treat: grapefruit.

These days I can’t get enough—it’s that good! And it’s so good for you, too, because it’s loaded with free radical-clobbering antioxidants.

I like to just slice into grapefruit, scoop out the juicy flesh, and eat it by the spoonful. And once you check out the rest of these tasty ideas, you’ll never have grapefruit hanging around the fruit bowl for very long:
  • Toss grapefruit pieces into your green salad for an extra boost of color and fiber. Drizzle with citrus vinaigrette.
  • Combine segments from white, pink, and red grapefruits in a fruit salad. It’ll brighten your day!
  • Sprinkle your shrimp with grapefruit juice instead of lemon juice. Or top broiled or grilled salmon with grapefruit pieces.
