It’s cranberry time, so
get ready to go crazy for these fabulous favorites that add traditional flavor
to the holidays. Besides their terrific taste, they pack a real health-smart
wallop, and a whole host of other feel-good benefits, too! Like:
·
Women who drink
cranberry juice are far less likely to have a urinary tract infection.
·
Cranberries are
rich in quercetin, a natural antihistamine that can help cut down on the
sneezing that comes with airborne allergens.
·
The ellagic acid
found in cranberries is a colon cancer fighter.
Cranberries can be enjoyed
fresh, frozen, dried, or as juice and sauce. When selecting fresh or frozen
berries, remember—the darker the color, the greater the amount of antioxidants
they contain. Store ‘em in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or freeze them for use
all year long. Just rinse ‘em before use, and enjoy!
And don’t let leftover
cranberries or sauce go to waste. Spread a little of the sauce on your turkey.
Try it on pork chops and chicken, too. Or cook up a batch of wild rice, and
toss in some chopped celery, chopped dried apricots, and cranberries.
Here’s wishing a happy
Thanksgiving to you and yours!
