4 Holiday Foods That Serve Up Good Health--All Year Long!

Here’s hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving—and that you got your fill of all your favorite traditional treats. It’s no secret that traditional holiday foods are delicious. But did you know about their many health benefits? Here’s the healthy scoop on some of my favorites:

Potatoes: If you’re on a low-sodium diet to lower your blood pressure, drop a peeled potato into your soup or stew to absorb the sodium. (Pull the spud out before you spoon up the soup.)

Squash: Before you take a holiday trip to the tropics, add high-beta-carotene foods like squash to your diet to boost the protective power of your sunscreen.

Sweet potatoes: You need more of these potassium powerhouses in your diet if painful leg cramps wake you up in the middle of the night.

Wine: What could be better than a glass of wine with Thanksgiving dinner? How about a glass of wine with dinner every day? Red wine is a natural antioxidant that—when consumed in moderation—can help battle cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more!
