Almonds are almost the
perfect snack. Nothing’s more convenient, because you can buy them shelled and
ready to eat—by the handful or added to hot cereal or yogurt. They’re
jam-packed with essential nutrients, and best of all, they’re rich in essential
fats that you can’t do without. Almonds are so good for you, in fact, that
they’re almost like little pills that go “crunch.” Here’s why:
·
High cholesterol. Studies have shown that eating almonds can lower cholesterol.
·
Dry skin. The
essential fatty acids in almonds are critical for skin health, since fatty acid
deficiency can leave skin looking dried out and wrinkled.
·
Weak bones.
You don’t need milk for a calcium fix—just eat more almonds!
·
Tendinitis.
Almonds are one of nature’s best sources of vitamin E, an anti-inflammatory
nutrient that can reduce swelling.
·
Heart attack.
Research at major medical schools has shown that eating a handful of almonds
five or more times a week cut study participants’ heart attack risk in half
compared with folks who never eat them.
But what about weight?
Nuts are high in fat and calories. If you curl up in front of the TV every
night mindlessly munching almonds, you’ll pack on the pounds for sure. So just stick
to a handful and chew slowly to enjoy the nutty goodness.
