Shake the Salt from Your Favorite Foods

Are you watching your salt intake because of high blood pressure or other health problems? If so, your doctor has probably recommended reducing the amount of processed foods in your diet. You know—foods like canned vegetables and fruits, dried soups and sides, and frozen dinners and desserts.  But with such  busy schedules, it's not easy to give up these quick fixin’s. The solution? Reduce their sodium level as much as possible. Here’s some simple ways to shake the salt without sacrificing the convenience of processed foods:
·        Rinse canned foods—most beans and other veggies come in liquid that’s loaded with salt, so rinse them under gently running water.
·        Remove breading—much of the salt in breaded foods is in the breading itself.
·        Dilute the soup—try mixing the amount of soup that fits into your sodium needs with water or milk.
·        Wash meats—cured meats, like ham, may be gently rubbed to remove the sodium-rich coating.
