Homemade Recipes for Year Round Highlights

Happy Labor Day! It may be the unofficial end of summer, but don’t let that get you down. You can keep the sun-kissed look of highlighted hair all year long. And instead of spending money on a professional treatment, just whip up one of these classic hair-lightening concoctions that’ll trim your tresses with natural summer highlights in any season:

1.   Mix the juice of 2 limes, the juice of 1 lemon, and 2 tablespoons of mild shampoo in a container. Pour the solution onto your hair, and massage it in well. Let your hair sit for an hour, then rinse thoroughly, and apply a good conditioner. Repeat the process until you think you’re blonde enough to have more fun!
2.   Mix 4 bottles of light colored beer into a basin and soak your hair in it for a few minutes. Squeeze the beer out with your fingers. Let your hair air dry, then rinse with clean water. Repeat 2-3 times a week and you will see sun-kissed highlights in your hair.

And if it’s red highlights you’re after, here’s a custom-made perker-upper that you can brew right in your kitchen:

After shampooing in your usual way, rinse your hair with strong black coffee that’s been cooled to room temperature. Give the java 30-60 minutes or so to work its magic, then rinse thoroughly with cool water.

Now you’ll feel sunny, sassy, and fresh, no matter what the season!
