Keep Those Kiddos Healthy!

This time of year, youngsters start bringing colds, flu, and other airborne illnesses home from school. So teach your kids how to avoid germs, arm them with hand sanitizer, and when they get home, treat them to a scrumptious, immunity-building snack.

With Halloween and jack-o-lanterns just around the corner, pumpkin seeds are just what the doctor ordered. They’re loaded with zinc—a critical mineral in fighting viruses. Let them eat ‘em by the handful, stir them into yogurt, or sprinkle them on top of soup or salad. Kids will gobble them up—and you’ll love them too!

Or you can sow seeds into a snack by mixing them up with other power-packed ingredients in a yummy trail mix. Start with dates, apricots, raisins, figs, and (a few!) pitted prunes. Add some pumpkin seeds, and of course, a handful of M&Ms for a mouthwatering treat. Have the kids go easy, though. This mix is really calorie-dense, so a little will take them a long way.
