But then I remembered some of my dad’s old-time tricks that he passed down from his Grandma Putt:
- Before heading out to the garden, lightly scratch your fingernails over a bar of soap. Come clean-up time, the dirt and soap washes right out.
- For quick and easy clean-up once you’re done with your yard work, place a bar of soap in the toe of an old nylon stocking or panty hose leg, and hang it near an outdoor faucet. Instead of making a mess inside the house, you can scrub up outside without even having to take the soap out of the stocking. And the texture from the hose will help you scrub every inch clean.
- Once you’re inside, clean the soapy residue out from under your nails by digging your fingers into the juicy flesh of half a lemon. Keep them there for one minute, then rinse them clean.
- Restore moisture to your nails by soaking your fingertips in ½ cup of warmed olive oil for 15 to 30 minutes once a week.
