Give the Gift of Stitch

Last week, I extolled the virtues of needlepoint as a stress reliever. So why not pass the idea on to a pal who could use a distraction? It could be a busy young mom, a neighbor who’s recovering from an illness, or just a friend who needs a time out from December’s busy days.

Giving the gift of needlepoint is easy, even if the recipient hasn’t discovered the craft yet. All you have to do is fill a canvas tote with essentials for getting started, like:

·        A package of needles

·        A threader

·        Scissors

·        Canvas with a simple design like an initial

·        Threads

·        Stretcher bars

·        A coupon for needlepoint lessons from you

Once the lucky recipient of your stitchin’ gift gets the hang of needlepointing, set up a few get-togethers so you can work on her project together. That way, if she has a question about technique, you’ll be ready and able to assist.  When her canvas is finished, it can be mounted onto the canvas tote the gift was presented in. And there you have it: You’ve given a friend a wonderful present—and hopefully a new hobby, too!
